Press Release: Hartzler Dairy Support of Local Farm11/16/2011 Hartzler’s Dairy Support of Local Farm
The Hartzler Family is proud to announce the addition of another local, sustainable dairy farm to their milk supply. “Hartzler Dairy is experiencing continued growth which requires us to reach beyond the family and find others whose farming foundations are like the Hartzler's. For these reasons, we are happy to welcome the 'Cream & Sugar Dairy Farm' located in Orrville, Ohio.” says John Merriman, Hartzler's General Manager.
The growth is attributed to their current stores within the Columbus, Cleveland, and Youngstown triangle. Also, the Hartzler’s have had many requests from the Toledo and Cincinnati areas. John Merriman expressed the demand for their product in these areas stating, “We received a call from a Store Manager near the Cincinnati area that was so adamant about getting our products that she contacted us three separate times. She wanted Hartzler’s milk because she was lactose intolerant until she tried our milk in Columbus at Clintonville Community Market. We want to serve her and others in that area, giving them a healthy milk option in their local community. ”
Choosing to supply the Cincinnati and Toledo areas will increase the milk volume needed. The Hartzler farms currently have 200 cows and are approaching capacity meeting the demand of our current stores. Therefore the Hartzler Family decided to ask Cream & Sugar Dairy in Orrville to be a milk supplier. The Hartzler’s have been long-term friends with Gene Nussbaum, the owner from Cream & Sugar Dairy, for 20 years. Gene Nussbaum even mentored with Harold Hartzler.
The President of Hartzler Family Dairy Gene Hartzler reaffirms “We know the Nussbaum family and we know their farming methods are of the same integrity as my brother’s farms. We want to continue on our mission of providing the healthiest milk around and we are thankful that we can support another local farm.”
Cream & Sugar Dairy uses the same stringent practices that are used on the Hartzler Farms including: the treatment of the soil and farmland, the treatment of the cows, and the diet of the cows. The farm has 50 Jersey cows all of which are treated the same as the Hartzler Holstein cows. The Hartzler Family is very excited to welcome the Jersey cows to our milk supply and feel blessed to have the opportunity to support another local farm practicing the same stringent standards that the Hartzler Family has advocated.
