Our Dairy Cows

We consider our dairy cows the first step in our milk processing procedure. That’s because what goes into our cows ultimately ends up in your milk. Our cows graze freely on green grass during warm months, which helps produce a healthier milk. Milk from grass-fed cows has been shown to contain more vitamins, Omega-3s, and conjugated linoleic acids. In addition, happy cows that are stress-free are generally healthier cows!

And perhaps just as important as what goes into our cows, is what DOESN’T go into our cows. Our cows are certified artificial hormone-free. Unfortunately, some commercial dairies inject their cows with hormones to stimulate more milk production. This also leads to some complications which means many of the cows also need steroids and other drugs. In addition, some dairy cows raised on large commercial dairies are fed primarily grain grown with pesticides. However, Hartzler dairy cows are given hays, grasses, and silage that has been dried and stored for use in the winter months, which is herbicide and pesticide free and grown on Hartzler’s own farms for strict control.

Even if you do not drink Hartzler's we encourage you to check with your milk supplier and ask if they use rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) or rBST (recombinant bovine somatotropinor) hormones.

Check out more on rGHB and rBST at The Center for Food Safety Website.
